Talking monuments:
Berlin answers you.

Speaking time from €1.11 ↓

Berlin has been giving its monuments a voice for years: audio projects and QR codes tell the story of selected statues — recorded, one-way.

Here, six Berlin landmarks go one step further: they hold a real conversation. You ask — and the figure answers, with its own voice, its own character and documented history. At the monument itself via phone, or from anywhere in the world, in ten languages.

Six monuments, six voices

From Gendarmenmarkt to the Victory Column — each figure speaks at its own monument, each knows its own story of creation, theft, relocation and return.

Frequently asked questions about talking monuments

What are talking monuments?

Monuments whose story you can hear instead of reading it on a plaque. Berlin has audio and QR-code projects at selected statues. On BerliNike.Art the monuments go further and answer live: a conversation with question and answer, not a recording.

Where can I talk to a monument in Berlin?

At six places in Berlin-Mitte and Tiergarten: at Gendarmenmarkt (the golden Nike on the French Cathedral and Friedrich Schiller), in the Nikolaiviertel (Saint George), at the Neptune Fountain by the Red City Hall, at the Brandenburg Gate (Victoria on the Quadriga) and at the Victory Column (Goldelse). On site via phone — or from anywhere on berlinike.art.

How much does a conversation cost?

Your first conversation with the golden Nike is free for 1:11 minutes — your own time-units, spent with BerliNike and her ancestors actively listening to you. After that, speaking time starts at €1.11.

How is this different from an audio tour?

An audio tour narrates — a talking monument answers. Every question gets its own answer, in the figure's voice and character, in German, English and eight more languages.

Can I talk to historical figures?

Yes — at the Schiller monument an AI interpretation of Friedrich Schiller answers: it speaks from his documented life and work, and never pretends to be the man himself. Nike, Neptune, Victoria, George and Goldelse likewise speak as interpretations of their monuments — conversations with historical figures and myths, honestly framed.

Are the stories real?

Each figure speaks on the basis of verified, documented facts about its monument — from creation to war damage to return. Where the records end, it says so instead of inventing.
